These are a group of 29 caves of the Hinayan, Buddist, Ganpateya and the Nath sects situated on the confluence of the Kotjai and the Dhakti rivers, which have sustained their natural glory for many centuries. It is so believed that the construction and carvings of these caves began in the 2nd or the 3rd century and continued for many centuries to come.

“ Once you reach the fort of Suvarnadurga in a boat, there is a small wall and a broken door overlooking the sea at a distance of 100 meters from the main entrance. There are two big bastions at a height of 30 feet and through that, you can see some steps going towards the door. The main entrance is still in good condition and looks very beautiful. As the door hasn’t been damaged much, the arch of the door is also in a very good condition. There are many sculptures carved on the door.

“ The temple of Chandikadevi which is situated approximately 5 kilometres from the Dabhol creek and 30 kilometres from Dapoli is a very unique, popular and ancient temple. The idol of the Goddess made in a single stone is placed in a natural cave in the mountain. Electricity is not used in the area of the temple. The sight of the idol in the soft lights of the oil lanterns is mesmerising.

The cave is designed characteristically. You must enter the temple with a humble and respectful demeanour. It is so believed that Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj had once visited this temple. "
